Well Therapy
Counselling and Psychological Services
Welcome to Well Therapy, a mental health practice I founded to provide a safe, supportive, and empathetic space for healing. I'm Fiona Boughton, Principal Therapist and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. My approach is grounded in the belief that a strong therapeutic relationship is key to positive client outcomes. I am dedicated to creating an environment where you feel seen, understood, and respected, fostering trust and connection without fear of judgment. My goal is to meet you with warmth, kindness, and compassion, and to help you cultivate these same qualities toward yourself.

Approach
Tailored Integrative Therapy and Support
At Well Therapy, I am committed to providing personalised, person-centred care to adults that is both culturally responsive and trauma-informed. My practice is holistic and integrative, drawing from a variety of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Narrative Therapy (NT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). My goal is to work collaboratively with you, helping you identify your strengths, set meaningful goals, and build practical skills that enhance mental health and overall well-being. I aim to empower you to take charge of your healing and growth.

trauma &
mental health
Trauma often sits at the root of many challenging symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, addictive behaviours, self-sabotage, persistent feelings of guilt or shame, chronic stress, difficulties in relationships, trust issues, emotional numbness, irritability, hypervigilance, sleep disturbances, and even physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, or digestive issues. Trauma can also lead to unhelpful patterns of behaviour that may seem hard to break, leaving people feeling stuck or out of control. It’s a common misconception that trauma is untreatable or that we should simply ‘move on’ from painful experiences. But when traumatic memories continue to resurface, they can overwhelm the nervous system, leading to feelings of constant unease and fueling harsh, self-critical beliefs. Healing from trauma involves more than ‘moving past’—it’s about safely processing these memories and creating space for new, self-compassionate perspectives.
I am deeply passionate about supporting people in this journey. I believe no one should feel trapped by painful past experiences, and I find it incredibly rewarding to help clients reclaim their lives, rebuild a sense of safety, and rediscover inner peace.

ABOUT ME
Whilst my primary passion as a Therapist and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker is helping individuals navigate life’s challenges, heal from past traumas, and find renewed resilience and strength, I am also deeply committed to educating and inspiring future social workers. As a casual academic in the Bachelor of Social Work program at UNSW, I share my experience and insights across a range of subjects, including Introduction to Social Work, Counselling for Individuals, Families & Groups, Ethics and Reflective Practice, Advanced Social Work Practice Methods, and Social Work Practice in Mental Health & Trauma.
In both my clinical and teaching roles, I am dedicated to fostering a compassionate, person-centred approach that empowers individuals and communities. Whether guiding clients through personal transformation or equipping students with the skills to make a meaningful impact, my work is driven by a commitment to growth, resilience, and inclusivity.
Outside of my professional passions, I love immersing myself in creativity and nature. Live music, theater, and other creative arts offer a sense of connection and expression that I find both inspiring and grounding. I also enjoy spending time in nature, exploring new landscapes, or simply unwinding outdoors—especially near water. These experiences bring balance to my life, fueling the empathy, creativity, and joy I bring to my work.
